Oh, another thing, cleanup, shoot, see the pic I posted, the one on the right? Along the trunk opening lip, there's a film from the over spray 'fog', and that needs to be cleaned up. I dragged a finger through it, which you can see there. But to give you an idea, the entire trunk was a cloud, and it gets tough to see through that crap! Anyway, not very relevant, just threw that out there, not even sure why!

And the trunk mats don't fit worth a crap, had to trim the heck out of it. Think I'll hide it with a amp mount or something...

Yours looks good, I'm not going to bother with a mat - put the jack in and a spare and call it a day. Looking at the picture, there seems to be some redish areas on mine, they don't show up in true light so there must have been something on the lens - anyways, I'm pretty happy with the finish - $49.00 well spent in my book!

Got into the 3rd can of paint this morning - had to touch up some areas - it's hard to paint in a dark garage - looks really good now - I'll let the spatter paint dry until later this afternoon, then I'll hit it with the clear - that should do it.

See, your splatter dries faster then mine did, I swear there was something wrong with the cans I was getting! Well, it was like 20 degrees outside when I did mine, MIGHT have SOMETHING to do with that! Heh-heh! I did keep the cans inside though, so they were warm... Oh, where did you source your cans from?

I got them from Perfomance Years - you've heard of them, right?

It's the GM paint too - I'm sure the temp had something to do with it.

I'll be honest with you - I'm very pleased with the outcome - talk about dressing a car on the cheap!

Hm, I think mine had a yellow & white label on them, and the description was typed on the label before it was put on the can. I'll have to look again though, for some reason, I'm a little foggy today. (maybe those dang margaritas caught up with me!)

Just clear coated it, letting it dry now before I pull it back in the garage. I'll get the lights back into it in the morning, put the harness back in, and be all set to go!

Thanks for the help.

Your trunk looks good. You used the GM trunk Black/Aqua splatter paint?

Yes, and I liked the look better before I put the clear coat on - but it still looks nice.

I know it can be tough in the winter, but no spraying shoud take place under about 55 degrees, better yet 60 degrees. The cars might be warm, but the metal you are applying it to is cold!!!!

If you start with a base color coat, the spatter will be just that, spattering the base coat, not trying to cover primer or some other color. I believe I started with a base coat of black for my '73 and then it only took 2-3 cans of aqua spatter. If the paint calls for, or recommends clear coating afterward, you definetely do not want to omit that. I think my spatter said something about being water soluable so it was essential to clear coat, another 2-3 cans

Here's how the finished product looks, seems like it's a touch off, but still pretty sweet.
