CS144 Alternator wiring
I grabbed this rebuilt 120A CS144 at the junkyard out of a '90 Caddy Deville. This is going in my 68 GTO clone with idiot light for the GEN. The '68 has a DK BLUE and BLK SGL WHITE coming off the stock alternator which head for the voltage regulator (which will be removed). How do these wires connect with the CS144? Will the idiot light continue to work with this alternator?

I have seen adaptor pigtails for that sort of thing, they plug into alt. then you plug your existing wires in the pigtail
but i have never used one and not sure where i saw them but check it out

I found this stuff online:
Unlike other charging systems which have three wires connected to the alternator, the CS-121 and CS-130 may be used with only two wires connected to the alternator. The output wire to the battery positive, and an "L" terminal wire connected to the charge indicator bulb, or to the resistor, or to both. One wire will connect to the output post on the rear of the alternator and the other will be connected through a dash light or to a switched ignition source. Which wire is the charge indicator bulb or the resistor? Is it the DK BLUE or Blk/White?

Neither. The brown wire from the voltage regulator feeds the GEN light.
But as mentioned earlier there are adapter harnesses that bypass the regulator. From MAD Enterprises; http://www.madelectrical.com/catalog/cs-130.shtml

I recently did this on a cs-130. The L wire goes to the original charging light which connected to the external voltage regulator. Disconnect from the voltage regulator and run it to the L terminal on new alternator. The charge light will work. If you don't use the charge light you have to put a resistor in line if that wire otherwise you'll damage the internal regulator in the alt.
Connect the S wire from the alternator to the original B+ junction in the engine harness. If you don't want to do that then just loop it back to the b+ output on the alternator. For the b+ output of the alternator run a 4 gauge wire back to b+ on the battery. You don't want to melt that wire if the alternator is generating rated output.
