301 Headers ? small high torque starter ?
Need help ! I want to put headers on my 80 G/A 301, hooker is the only one that I can find that makes headers for a 301 but they are for the firebird - T/A, has anyone here ever put f body headers on a G body ?(to me all GM intermediates from 78 to 88 are G bodies) also stock replacement starters fit 301 326 350 400, I want to put a small high torque starter on my 80 G/A as the starter went out right after I bought it,didn't even get a chance to drive it,no one lists a 301 for the small hight torque starter, but yet the stock one fits all the other engines.I know about the 301 originally designed for trans am racing in 1970 to compete with the Z28 then introduced in 76 or 77, siamesed cylinders shaved block etc kind of weak, but then strengthened for 80 & 81 but still not a performance engine, then dropped, any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Mike 1980 Grand am White all stock except 79 grilles,80 lemans tailights 1981 Grand lemans 2 door 400 SBC turbo 350 came that way runs too good to change |

Headers can be made to work but to be honest they are a waste of money. The headflow does not warrent them. Stock logs from a 326 thru 455 are an upgrade , Ram Air manifolds will work with a little grinding (motor mounts and such) and a remote oil filter adapter. Never had an issue with a stock one. The 301 is smaller that may help exhaust fitment. I used a RobbMc one just for that reason. The later turbo blocks and cranks are "stronger" then the early a NA blocks/cranks What else you need to know. Thanks Mike
