62 GP 4 speed shifter rods
I'm finally get back to my 62 GP restoration that has sat idle for last 2 years, 5 years total. I have an unrestored factory shifter for my T-10 but missing rods. Does any know if hurst shifter rods will work with them, or Do I need to hunt down factory set. I see there is a restored unit on ebay for 1000.00, but I'm not interested yet. Also, I see a couple a vendors every year at Norwalk who just do shifters. Any one have number or good luck with any of them?
Thanks, Mark |

Hey Mark-
You can use a Hurst Competition Plus shifter with a bolt-on shifter that has a (dummy) reverse-lockout on it. IMO, I think think the stock shifters are crap. That said, if you're building a 100-point car, you're stuck with it; but a 100-point car isn't DRIVEN, either. Please post pics of your GP here if you can. |

This is how its sits now, ready to be sprayed. It's a 62 GP 425A 4spd Red/white interior-8lug-posi PHS correct car. I do have go resto and frame photos that I can post, but have to track down which SD card its on.

I have the factory shifter in mine,... yes, agree with Matt,...they're crap - as Nixon calls them - a seek and destroy. $1K is very high for a factory shifter.... about $200 is about normal.
If you're going to drive it - read Matts post again -r-

Watch for one on E-Bay with a crappy shifter that has all the linkage. I don't think Hurst rods will work with the factory shifter.
You can use Comp. Plus deal and buy a repop handle to make it look like original. I am getting ready to put one on E-Bay with all linkage, but it is for a bench seat car.

The reason why factory shifters are so rare was because they were crap. We used to call them the hot knife through butter shifters. Get a Hurst and be able to shift instead of hunting for gears.

Ditto on the Comp Plus shifter. It's the best upgrade to a stick car that you can do. The OE shifters are looser than a worn out grain truck's when they're new. Seek and destroy because you never know what gear you'll catch at what RPM at the next shift.
