This weekend I made a startling discovery, the dash 'GTO' nameplate insert for non-air 60 GTOs was used only until February sometime.
The nameplate that was on my vehicle is long gone, but I managed to acquire a replacement. It does need to be repainted. This weekend I managed to pry the lexan off its base with some heat and patience. Unfortunately as dilligent as I treid to be I still cracked the lexan. Being clear plastic I want to duplicate this piece. Does anyone know of a clear liquid form plastic that will harden within a mold? 1969 GTO Restoration

If anyone cares, found a possibility for duplicating clear pieces, a "liquid plastic" offered by Crystal Clear 202 by Smooth-On
I will experiment and advise of my success (or failure)... 1969 GTO Restoration

My dad bought my '69 GTO in the summer of '72..
It was a non-air RA III Judge. It never had the GTO insert on the dash, or a Judge glovebox emblem. (I guess someone could have removed them, but I see no signs of old adhesive or holes.) I decided to not add them, as I want to keep the car original. THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES 14-0 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS #1!!!!!!! |

It,s true some did not have the emblem at all.
The first run of judges did not have glovebox emblems(Problems with tooling?) I have seen door emblems used on the dash, don,t know if thats stock or not but it looked Ok. --------------------------------------------------------- "GTO? Good Times Only!!!" Doobie -
The "GTO" dash insert as mentioned was on very early '69s w/o A/C. I dont know exactly when but I think only the first six weeks of production received the insert. Mine was assembled the first week of Jan and the dash has the holes for the insert, but the insert was gratiously removed by someone in the car's lifetime. 1969 GTO Restoration

Doobie, some of the No-A/C GTO's didn't have the plastic GTO emblem in the center of the dash.Same thing with the'69 Judges,I think the earlier built ones didn't have "The Judge" emblem on the glove box door.
