Go to each U-Pull-it in your area, and pick ANY non-electronic Q-JET you come across. Be sure to figure the vehicle arrived JUNK for some other reason. Run Q-JET as-is except to put Accel Pump rod on inner hole & put your preferred Sec Rods in. $35.
oh, you're welcome. |

check junk yards, craigs list, ebay......according to the literature by Ruggles the best carbs rank in the following order.
1. 73'-74' super duty Pontiac (big bucks for one) 2. 71'-74' Buick carbs that came on 455s (reasonably priced) 3. 71'-Pontiac 455 HO carb,( no outer booster ring and ridiculously priced) 4. I would look for anything produced between 1975-80, they are cheap, plentiful, and are very capable performers. Stay away from the computer command control (CCC) ones. I also highly suggest getting the Cliff Ruggles book on Q-jets. I learned quite a bit from it. I had a 400 w/ (13) heads, ran great with a Q-jet. However I sold the car and now Building a 455 stroker engine (501) with the parts supplied from Bulter Performance. The engine came with a 850 DP Holley so now I'm trying to learn and acquire as much info as I can about those.......good luck on the search. |

Ebay is swimming in quadrajets. You just have to know how to spot a good core. I wouldn't pay more than $75-100 for a good core. I paid $57 for a nice '80 model from a 350 camaro.
This could be a really good core, it's just got the chevy fuel inlet. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ROCHESTER-QU...f56e78&vxp=mtr

Q-jet
I had better luck at the swap meets then I did with E-bay.
The core I sent to Cliff was from a freind who had an extra that was complete and the exact style I needed. Pay close attn to choke, throttle linkage and vents Good Luck and Good hunting GerryC

What kind of Quadrajet are you looking for. I have several rebuildable cores. PM me if you still need one.

If you are patient you can still find complete unmolested Q-jets on Criagslist for $5-10. I have a shelf full. Sometimes people just want to get rid of them.

I recently bought a core on idiot-bay for $30 shipped to my door. I sunk about another $100 bucks in parts into it, and rebuilt according to Cliff's book. Carb works flawlessly, and I'm into it for about $125 plus my time.

I've worked on a boat load of, them. I've got most of the drill bits needed, waiting on the smallest set. Then will get some goodies from Cliff........Looking forward to putting the "Cliff' tune on one... If I don't spend money on ANYTHING else, I'm doing this, this year!!! Don't dismiss a Chevy inlet carb (if you would WANT to use one, that is) I'm running across ton of 17050204 Chevy carbs. THey are 750 CFM units w/ APT, still a good carb to use (I think???)
