Default Barrett Jackson 65s

Notice in both of these 65s the rocker arm covers and not correct.
In this one the rocker arm covers has been reversed. The driver's side is on the passenger side: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...ln=526&aid=466

This car has a very square rocker arm cover that I have never seen before: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...ln=935&aid=466

I'd be more offended by the wrong Rally I caps ('66 and later). Two speed auto on the column is certianly less than desireable.

Looks to me like a later model cover, like '67.

I am kinda partial to car #2....

Car 1 is using the Cali emmissions provision cover on the passenger side.
Think it was for 66 Cali only - not 64 or 65.
The rear bumper looks pushed in - in the center - grabs my eye.

If its a genuine Iris Mist Vert ... thats pretty special to a lot of buyers.
Great option content !
Sold 66k

Car 2 is using 67-up covers best i can tell.
We can't use 389 covers on heads with screw-in studs (without a spacer) , so that might be the issue there. Later model screw-in stud heads perhaps. Or 1.65 rocker arms.

TripleBlack is Killer for Hire

Sold 68k

Both of these cars are going to make some new owners very happy people.
Maybe even same person bought them both.

I order my 65 with the California positive C/C vent. The vent went to the drivers side rocker arm cover. The 1st car looks like a California vent rocker arm cover but the vent is plugged up and not in use and it should be on the drivers side. The vent should also be on the bottom side of the cover where his is sitting on top indicating his rocker arm covers are on the wrong side.

Default Barrett Jackson 65s

The Iris Mist car has a PCV hose routed through a bracket. I thought that was used on 4 barrell cars only. I also noticed the electric choke. For this kind of money I would expect every detail to be perfect.

I noticed in the write-up that this is an original 4 bbl car and they did reuse the pcv bracket, incorrectly for a tripower. Since this is NOT an original tripower, in my opinion, it sold for too much, even with A/C.
And the rear bumper does look like it is pushed in at the center.
Also, it was usual that the valve covers were reversed on A/C cars, with the oil filler on the driver's side rather than the passenger side.

I have an all original '65 tripower hardtop (just under 70,000 miles), so have a good example of what the engine compartment should look like.

The thing that caught my eye right away with the Iris Mist car was the bent back bumper. The lines on the rear of a '65 are so sharp and crisp, it stands out like a sore thumb.

Why do non-Pontiac people always think Hurst wheels were an option on GTOs.

Yes,photos please. All of my '65 and '66 GTO's have always had the oil filler on the driver's side. Also, what did the Iris Mist car actually sell for?

I'm learning more on this thread: I did not know that the valve covers were different for A/C vs non A/C. I thought they were all the same. Just the positive C/C vent option made them slighty different. I thought that all 65s had the oil filler cap on the pass side and some are saying that theirs are on the driver's side. So I looked at Keith Seymore's car in the Survivor issue of HPP and he has oil filler caps on both sides.

Yah - that's a typical hot rodder/period correct mod for more crankcase ventilation and easy oil fill access. My car also has the later '67 style valve covers on it, which I may (at some point) replace with the originals.

My car is not a very good reference for engine related questions, since it was modified early on for racing (like, within the first 15 minutes).

So the question is Keith with your non A/C car and if you put your original valve covers on correctly which side would the oil filler cap be on?

It would be:

RH side: pyramid to the front; oil fill breather

LH side: pyramid to the rear; blank cover (or plugged).

These photos are from Ed Lis' low mileage (4200 miles) '65 GTO. March of 1965 Kansas City build, if memory serves.
