My 7040270
I decided to share with the py group pictures of my restored carburetor Ray Klemm restored it for me. My goal is to have car running by end of summer. I'm very close to stock and am very proud of my carburetor.

7040270 has a metal fast idle cam from factory and a triangular retainer/washer on the slashed vent tube.

I agree in that there are quite a few restorers who really pour on the gold. On later carbs I've actually had the correct color mixed up for the links as well as pump arms, although its not Teflon like the factory used. Again, the lighting in my shop can create bright or dim shots and I just use my phone for taking photos. Thank you for the compliment. |

The triangle cover will be installed after testing, as far as the weight I'm checking with another source, if it needs one I will make it happen.

I must say that looks great!
I had been hoping to find a 7040270 for my car's original (as purchased, NOT built) YZ engine, but the stand in is a 7029270. The attached image is to help only. These details aren't worth sweating for most.

I'm certainly glad I have others here to point out what they think are flaws in my work, especially since none of them were here to actually see what I was doing, or the parts I was working with. I really understand why some others quit posting on this site, and honestly one reason why I don't post my work here.
The step cam has already been remedied and as far as the bowl vent, it's an illusion. |

68 and 69 used the plastic type fast idle bobber, like Nacho's picture displayed.
70 used metal , on all 1970 Pontiac Qjets. Its just a friendly helpful point to make towards such a well restored and bonafide real McCoy. I think its great that it was able to be corrected while the builder still had possession. :thumbsup: |

Seems like the old plastic cams were the subject of a recall due to cracking?
I think what the guys are trying to convey, Ray, is that when you are doing this level of work, you are bound to run into guys. Guys like in this photo, who are 5 deep giving this poor car a procto at this summer's GTOAA! Maybe someday I will be able to subject my 'bird to this sort of scrutiny??

Yes, I found out today that all 67, 68, and some 69 models had plastic cams, 1969 was the year that Rochester made the switch, so from part way in 69 on they came with metal cams. I'm always learning. |
