Default Figured I oughta introduce myself

Hello everyone!

If this is the wrong spot for introductions I apologize, new to the site.

I'm new to Pontiacs and the forum, to get things rolling let me tell my Pontiac story. Last year a buddy of mine found a 1967 Pontiac Grand Prix for sale at a junkyard. Him knowing that I was a GM enthusiast he twisted my arm to go look at the car. After looking at the car and speaking with the junkyard, I found that they were going to crush the car if nobody bought it as it had been sitting for sale for a couple months. I then struck a deal with the junkyard and I became the proud owner of a 1967 Grand Prix for $900. Like most cars from 60s there's rust here and there but overall I think it's solid enough to be worth saving, with the majority of rust that I can see being in the trunk and rear window. I'm sure there's more hidden surprises but it runs and is able to move so that's a plus. Like most car guys I have a couple other projects so the GP will be on the backburner for some time, but I'm currently studying Autobody at a technical college so I might chip away at the rust issues as I become more confident in my skills. That's pretty much where I'm at for now, looking forward to getting to know the site.

Thanks,

Jonny

67 GP was a one year only model and only year there was a 'vert. I had one for a long time and can answer questions. Where are you (just city is fine) ? Usually high body rust is on a car that sat near the Atlantic for a long time. How is the trunk floor.

BTW 8-lugs just bolt right on unless it has disk brakes.

Wonder what is with the cheaper Billy Mitchel's Revenge next to it.

Very cool car. Hide away headlights are so cool. There is a lot of help here so ask anything. These folks have seen it all before. I like that your junkyard sold you the car. All the yards around me will not sell a complete car once they get their hands on it. Don't ever let the rust stop you. Sites like Metalmeet readily can show you how to shape patch panels and weld them in. Like anything in this world, try it and you will learn. Second patch will be better. The third even better. People can do amazing things if they try. Good luck and send as many pictures to us as you can. And thanks for saving that old Grand Prix. She will be Grand again.

Paul

Here are some more pictures of the Grand Prix! You can see how the trunk is rusted but not too bad, and the floors of the car look to be in excellent condition looking from underneath. Also the interior looks to be complete as well, I haven't noticed any missing trim or other parts although the part that joins the console to the dash has an aftermarket radio installed. It looks like it has been cut which is unfortunate but on the whole it's not too bad. I also removed some of the primer that was on the car to get a look at the original paint and it is a darker turquoise, I don't think its a 2 tone car. There's also a picture of the body tag so I anybody wants to help decode it that would be amazing.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! I have done some patch welding in my Autobody class but I still need some practice, sounds like a trip to the junkyard to get a junk fender to work on. I'll have to look through the pictures I've taken of the car so that you guys can get a better idea of the cars condition but the damage is definitely not insurmountable.

Padgett, I'm located in Renton, WA. I'll get pictures of the trunk and other rust areas for you to look at.

Thanks guys!

Pictures continued:

I hit the limit of pictures in my last post so here are pictures of the trunk, the floors, the block #, and what looks to be filler stuffed into a hold on the drivers side roof rail/A pillar.

Here is also a clip shortly after I got the car to fire up. It runs better now but I think there was still some bad gas in the carburetor which is why it sounds a little rough. I have an AFB 4242S that's waiting to be rebuilt to replace the Holley 4 Barrel.

I am officially jealous. Man you got a good deal. 1980's kinda good deal. Its so hard to find a classic in that condition for that kind of price. You could get that car running better, go through the brakes and clean it up. Quadruple your money if you decided not to keep it. The important thing is that the car didn't get scrapped. I hope you keep her and put her back on the road.

I do have some brake parts on the shelf that I got for the car when I first got it but it was parked outside for a year and I wasn't enthusiastic about working on the sidewalk. Fortunately she's in a garage now so it may be time to start chipping away at the brakes and other areas so I can at least drive it around the neighborhood. The Pick N Pull I got the car from informed me that before the car can officially be registered it'll need to be inspected by WA Patrol, I'll have to get into contact with them to see what the car needs to pass.

Thanks Tom, this GP is equipped with a 400 4 barrel and a Th400 Automatic. I was able to get the engine running with some tinkering and she runs sweet, no smoke or funny noises or anything. The odometer indicates 44 thousand miles which I think might be accurate, runs like a top!
