Shaker Maker
Any of you guys using this? I've seen this advertised for a long time but haven't heard any mention about it. Looks pretty cool to me. I have a spare I'd use to set it up with. Thoughts?

I had a spare that I sent to this guy about three years ago to install the kit. Excellant fit, finish and works great. Not noticible from the outside except the lack of the three rivets that were there originally. It works off of a 400 THM transmission kickdown switch mounted on the accelerator.
I highly recommed. FF |

Thanks FF! How about the electrical connections? Is there any splicing involved? I don't want to mess with my harness.

consider an alternative to electrical operation of the flapper. Fasten a small coiled spring along the axle. One end across the stationary section and another across flapper section of the assembly. It will remain shut during normal operation and open under high vacuum.

I did have to run a lead from a switch operated fuse to the kickdown, then through the firewall to the shaker. I hid the wires pretty well but they are noticible going to the shaker. Whenever the accelorator is pressed, the kickdown switch is activated and the fap opens. Under normal accelaration the flap stays closed.
I always loved the functional shaker and this was a good alternative than trying to peice together the system the way the factory installed them prior to '73Hope this helps. FF |

I bought all the pieces from PY, it was a bit more expensive but it looks almost identical to factory setup with 2 solenoids. They even have harness, brackets and switches for connecting to the throttle linkage for manuals like factory. However, even though mine is a 4spd, I connected mine to the kickdown switch as well, like they would have down for automatics. Don't ask me why my car had a kickdown switch, gave up on trying to answer that one. Ran a new circuit from fuse box to the solenoids through the kickdown switch.

Ah yes, those are from Howard Tucker, good man.
I used this from him and even got a 76 shaker to put it on,works exellent on the 73. I kept the original shaker capped with the rivets,"for the points" crowd Always love to pop that flapper open and hear the 4bbl.

I attached a shot of my setup versus an original setup someone sent me (not sure what year). I got all my stuff through PY.

That stuff ran out a few years ago. But if non-original look is ok, the kit looks good. Rask you need to buy a set of my T-Bar Bushings |

Rask, that looks absolutely AWESOME!!! That's what I want!
So is it just has one connector? Does it get routed to the kickdown switch? Do they supply all the cable with connectors for the entire job? That really does look sweet! |

Norwood, that was an older photo, I have since located T-bar bushings. I also tried to locate the grpommet holes and such per the assembly manual but I do have a question. In the original photo it looks like they have Gnd strap from the solenoid bracket to the Flapper? and then maybe another one from the shaker base to the firewall. I replicated the one from the shaker to the firewall (not shown) but was wondeing if there was 2.

Unfortunate thet PY does not sell the kits anymore but, Year One looks like they have kits that may include dual solenoids. Wouldn't hurt to call and ask.

The pic of the Y1 one is the same as the one I posted above, unfortunately.
I found this bit of info for you, Rask. The braided-wire ground strap is attached to the rear of the scoop and fits into a female spade connector mounted on the firewall providing the solenoids with additional ground. Though ground is transmitted through the carburetor and air cleaner, levels are limited and may be insufficient for proper solenoid operation. Lots of other good info and pics here: http://www.highperformancepontiac.co.../photo_05.html |
