Default Old Pontiac parts Barn Find

I have a Mallory Double life Distributor P/N YC312HP With a cable tack drive.

What is this and when was it used? It has duel points.

Anyone know any information on this, please post it.

I just had a man drop off two pallets of old parts:

350 block GTO

2 new in the box's steel cranks with bearing kits
2 cast factory cranks.

2 sets of heads

Aluminum intake with no cross over.

and a ton of old Ponitac parts

Well, they were not free.

The heads are #12 complete assembled matching set.

Yes the dist. is Pontiac, cable tack drive I never heard of one.

I will check the cranks in the Am for the numbers and let you all know. I do not plan to keep any of it and will offer it in the for sale parts section. I just want to know what I have.

I have 6 cams if anyone want to know what they are. Buckets of push rods and roller lifters, a few sets of ribbed valve covers. a few new oil pumps. And these funny looking things that sit over the rocker shafts the shield the oil from splahing all over. There is a foot locker that I not even opened yet that had to be lifted out with a fork truck, who knows what is in there.

I would like to get this stuff to someone that is restoring a Pontiac motor and needs this hard to find stuff.

Distributors with mechanical tach drives were not uncommon in the 60's and even into the 70's. When electronic tach's got better (ie - no lag time like with today's Auto-Meter's) the direct drive tach's became obsolete. I'd EBAY that distributor if I were you...some nostalgia Pontiac collector will want it.

Bob, if that dist. is like the old mallery I have here you will see one set of points works half the motor and the other the other half. This was a good idea back then cause you dropped the point speed in half (no bounce) but it was suggested to set them up on a distributor machine to make sure the timming would be the same on both halves.

I have one of those too. It has provision for the cable drive but there is no drive gear in there.

Bob. If you find any early high strength tempest chains give me a ring.LOL!!! Chances of finding these are as rare as Hens teeth. If you come accross any of the iron cam sprockets let me know.
