Is water pump working?
My 66 326 had the motor rebuilt before I purchased it. I've finally got it running but I'm questioning IF the water pump is working. After running for about 5 minutes it starts stitting water out of the new radiator. I checked the thermostat and it open @ 190 degrees.

If it's spitting water out the top I'd say it is. Look inside ... carefully.... and see how fast the coolant is flowing. Slow... not good. Fast... it's working great.
You don't want it throwing a lot of coolant out, but spitting a wee bit is ok. Mine puked about a pint of coolant when I got mine running with the new pump. But that was from the 'ol air bubble in the system'. Added more and all was ok. Now if you run it and shut it off, 'heat soak' will make the temp rise.... it's ok. But if she gets too hot she might mark her territory on the floor with coolant out the overflow. Don't add anything if it does... it'll be ok. Just means it's over full.

I removed the water pump and ordered a new one. Now I'm having second thoughts about my existing water pump. In the thread there is a SS plate mentioned. Mine doesn't have any and I have trouble imagining how water could forced out of the pump with such a wide gap between impeller and housing. Maybe I'm missing the SS plate? I see the water pump divider plates in the PY and Ames catalogs.

No divider plates is the biggest part of your problem. Send that email to Dan67 I gave you on the PM, as he has some.
I suggest you do get and use the new pump. You'll be further ahead with it.... And a set of original 8 bolt plates.
