NOS means New Old Stock.
How much is he asking for it?

428 engine
Was it possible to buy a complete over the counter engine with timing cover, wpump, pulleys, all manifolds, and intake? I was always under the impression that a short block or long block only? Nice engine for sure.

yes NOS that is my understanding, this is a new old stock engine and its not a service replacement block. Not sure on the price.

I would think no 2 letter stamp on NOS. That would have been on production line for install.

How much is he asking for it? Forum rules require a price - there is no price in the CL add.

Not buying the story
The numbers above the XF would have matched the last digits of the VIN. One ugly motor for never being in a car and having always been stored inside.

I've got a '67 428, was a SR motor and stamped right in the block down where the vin would be. So who stamped the service replacement blocks the dealer or the factory?
Lyn.

This engine was was originally installed in a car. It is not NOS nor is it an over the counter or Service Replacement engine. It is however desirable. Please post a price.

Actually, the EUN and VIN stamps are completely different. Here's the EUN & VIN stamp on my '70 XF 455 for reference...

Looks like a low mileage engine pulled many years ago. Neat to see part of the original XF paper decal still present. I bet the original nylon-tooth cam timing gear is still in it.

What I found odd (for a never fired engine) is the dis-colored weak paint that is around the center intake ports, esp. the choke area.

The XF code is the std 370 HP 428 with std log manifolds, the XG 390 HP 428 would have the long branch manifolds.
