Thanks Bill!

Ok, here's the deal. I got a chance to run an Autocheck yesterday and for kicks threw in the VIN from my first new car, my 87 IROC. Turns out it has been in Janesville since 1998, showing a registration event every year up until 2007....that's where the info ends.

I'm hopeful it's still there, and that somebody may know of it or see it at a local cruise night. 305 TPI, 5spd, t-tops, Black over grey custom cloth.

We'll see if this works.

I pounded the snot out of it! It's got a set of service replacement heads sitting on a service replacement block in it.

I forwarded your info to my friend who lives in Janesville. He works for the Cat (or is it John Deere - cant remember) dealer up there and knows EVERYONE. Maybe he'll get a lead.

Thanks Paul.

This morning I called F A G A N (Net nanny wouldn't let me put all of those letters together) Chevrolet in Janesville - unfortunately they've never serviced it - the VIN wasn't in their system.

The quest continues...

Another picture of the car - in Rhode Island on vacation with my BIL riding shotgun circa 1988 - I looked like such a kid!

You know I hate to say this but dont junk yards keep track of cars they've crushed? Maybe the car has met its maker? Id call a few junk yards in the area if this is the case. Not on the road in seven years? Sounds like its sitting in a garage or junked.

Salvage yards are suppose to keep track of VINs and send in titles for "certificate of destruction" but WI doesn't really enforce it. None of the WI yards I go to bother with the process.

Its not good that the last registration was in 2007. Scrap prices were extremely high that year and many yards were crushing cars as soon as they came in. A two ton car was worth around $500. I know of several yards that crushed out at least 50% their inventory during 2007 because of what it was bringing as scrap.

I remember that. I worked for an auction back then and the junk yards were trolling for non running cars.

Find it Chris and I would be happy to take a road trip up there with Paul to check it out. Its only about an hour Northwest of us. Or for 500.00 a day I can go cruse around up there till I find it. I do know a couple of the Police Chiefs up there if thats something that might help.

Craig we could start calling you "The Count".

Hey Chris, if you do find it, you got Craig and I to handle an inspection.

Thanks Craig, staying positive.

Honestly I find it hard to believe it lasted up until 2007 based upon the beating it took from me & the lives of others I've seen. As tacky and cliche as they are, I really enjoyed that car!

Good luck in your search, I hope you find it.

My first new car was also an IROC, 1986 and red, 5 speed no t top or TPI (5 spd only available with carb that year). I loved that car. That was my dd and my 1972 LeMans was my street/strip car.

I know what happened to my IROC, regrettably it was totaled in April 1993 when my wife fell asleep at the wheel on her way home from work (RN working nights at a hospital). Fortunately my wife was fine, the car not so much.

I sincerely hope you find and enjoy it again. This thread brought me back.
