Default ORIGINAL RC 15 70-72

In need of a picture of a ORIGINAL correct RC 15 highlighting the rivit. I remember hearing that the repop has an incorrect rivit and I am lookingg to correct that. Thanks

Just pokin at you a little Mike. Good laugh for my day.

Norwood, I have some original caps with the button formed rivet and some with the indented rivet and then some with the flat rivet. Seemed like a transitional change at GM over a short period of time. Tool wear or set-up differences at the assembly plant?

Both ways are correct depending on plant and time frame of production right?

I have a REPOP.. I didn't get that one off the Nova. If you remember I said " I want to take that cap" I didn't take it. Their are a couple oif different styles of this cap, one has bigger ears than the other. It was used atleast thru 72 so I'm sure that you have one...

Here's an nos one that I've had for years. This is the small ear style you are mentioning. RC15 - 861050

This is the other style solid rivet with the larger rounded ears, still nos GM. Looks totally different on the backside.

Here is an example ebay nos one, or nearly so, of the small ear and shows the backside and the rivet. Might be better pictures.

If you look at the repro from inline tube, while very nice, it is the style with the larger more rounded ears.

This guy is Israel has a bunch of them for $44 plus shipping!!!

Wow, I like the print on the label he has. Very cool......

I always thought the big eared style was correct for late 60's through '72 cars. Does anyone know if this smaller eared cap was correct for '73 and later?

I spoke incorrectly earlier as the current cap I have is a RC15 with the small ears, that I know is incorrect. Just another one of those things that get changed out over the years.

hollow rivit for 69 to 72..its why correct NOS exaples are 300 to 500 bux

solid rivit like pic'd 66 to 68

small ears are service pieces

they where made by stant..and are easier to find in a stant box than a GM box

So hollow rivet, BIG ear is correct for all 68-72 Firebirds. 15 lbs?

Good information here. Craig, you could make a mint machining out the rivet centers on the reproduction RC-15 caps!

Steve and Brian, thanks for the good word on the RC-33 caps... got an NOS one ordered and on the way!

This will throw a wrench in Marks testimony.......Here's two originals I have.....both are different. I believe the top one is the original one on my 72 350 Lemans....no divot and the AC is on the left side. Not sure where I picked up the bottom one, but it has the Divot AND the AC is on the right side.
