HO ac bracket question
Is the rear a/c bracket from compressor to intake diff for an HO engine for a 72 Formula ? If so are they available or does anyone want to sell me one ? I also need the vac valve thing with the plastic vent that bolts to the pass side rear intake if anyone has one for sale.
Thanks guys !!!

yes, the upper rear A/C bracket is different for the HO. They are hard to find but maybe someone here will have one they would sell. They were reproduced by Barry at Sonic Motors, he had a run of 100 or so made and he might still have one. Their phone number is 810-750-1421.
On the vacuum switch, I think you are looking for the TCS switch that mounts to the rear of the intake. It's specific to '72 and part #1114454, might try JL Harper to see if he still has one of these: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...hlight=1114454

I recently asked Rocky Rotella about the same bracket (based on information from a article in HPP February 2005) Rocky stated that the 72 bracket is the same for both the cast iron intake and the HO Intake ( the 1973 bracket is different). I will let Rocky answer any questions.

I will look & see if I have one for you. I'll look in the am to see. If I do it will be hanging on my pegboard in the garage.

not sure which brace Rocky was thinking about, there is a different upper rear brace for the '71-'72 HO motor to clear the pre-heater assembly. Here's Pat Brown's website with details of the HO brace a few pics from the top:

SS-TA, I'm sorry, I should have been more much descriptive in my reply to you. I was thinking in general terms, and yes, the bracket itself is the same for '71-72 iron and aluminum manifolds (A/C was available on RAIV), but the HO A/C bracket has the rolled lip to clear the preheater tube that bossbird shows and Rick mentions. We recreated one for our 1972 Trans Am using a standard bracket and a ban-saw to cut away the appropriate area. It looks authentic, only lacking the rolled portion.

BRACKET
and the special provision for the 455 H.O. dipstick mounting

Rocky:
So if I understand correctly a 72 bracket for a cast iron intake will fit on the HO aluminum intake, but not be correct visually or fit for the pre-heater assembly or the HO dipstick mount ? |

The HO and non-HO rear A/C brackets are the same basic stampings. The HO unit differs in the fact that the edge beneath the preheater tube is rolled downward (or rearward) to provide clearance for the tube. You can see that clearly depicted in bossbird's photo.
I'm not aware of any provision for the dipstick mounting tube. The HO engine uses an upper dipstick tube that connects to the rear A/C bracket whereas standard engines use one that connects to the front bracket. As far as I know, the hole the tube is bolted to on the rear A/C bracket was already present on the standard bracket. In other words, the hole is there on both brackets. |

Bracket/tcs
Thanks guys for the much needed help !! Rexs73gto, I found the bracket I needed but many thanks for your help.
Ricksgto, thanks for Barry's # w/Sonic Motors !! Barry had both pcs I needed and have already been shipped. After reading this post I noticed you guys are also mentioning the dipstick tube is different or just bolts to the HO bracket instead of the front A/C bracket ?? Rick I need to call you maybe this evening if it's ok Thanks !!!!!

DIPSTICK
the 455 H.O. dipstick tube is special and mounts to the a/c bracket(wishbone) with a bolt & star washer....atleast it does on mine...not certain about non a/c cars...I know the front bracket is the same for all uses (not the wishbone bracket of which there are 2 different styles) and mine has the hole that is not used for H.O. motors..it would be used if a non H.0....so confusing without pictures...also the rear a/c bracket for H.O. engines has that special rolled lip for the vacuum modulator line to clear on auto cars..so a lot going on with that unique 455 H.O. bracket
