1972 HO Formula on BAT
It's an interestingly optioned car in an attractive color combo!
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...ac-firebird-5/ Is it anyone's here? |

I like everything but the wheels and tires on it. Should be interesting to see what it goes for!

Cool car!
It's only about 15 minutes from me. I haven't seen it around before.

It does have some very nice features. But, seller is clearly avoiding some big questions.
Is it a numbers WM? Why did all the panels need replacement? Clear title? Where’s the M-22 trans, reared, 73 replacement radiator support and fender. Some may like… 12 bolt posi not a bad swap for a 10 bolt peg leg the factory put in? Herb Adams sway bars and suspension maybe an upgrade to Y99? 17” Yearone honeys over 14”? Engine internals never a bad thing, and exhaust upgrades over stock? But, it’s rare and desirable. Maybe some TLC will be done with next owner.

I saw it yesterday after BAT emailed me the notice of it, and it's already getting better bidding that a couple of the last second gen Firebirds I was watching.

I like it, has the classic look while not being terribly modified.
Since it claims panels such as doors replaced, doesn't say reskinned or sourced replacement doors, but is there a door skin that lacks the same amount of bottom curve? This one doesn't match front or rear fenders there, perhaps more high-fill. |

I have seen this car in the past when I was buying a Formula.
I did not see it in this condition. The trans "appears" to be the early 5 speed, similar to the Doug nash with a 1:1 high gear. Note speedo cable not hooked up. No pics of the floors really or inner rockers, or bottoms of doors. I have a Revere '72 from the same dealer, same week and it would need all that metal too , and more. Local cars around here Rot bad. I have a feeling I know who built this, and I think they are a member here. I would have expected better quality, but if built to sell...... Revere Hides a lot Suggest a test drive and a complete underside check in detail. If the underside has the floors freshly undercoated .. think hard .. This is not really an investment car at this point. Could be fun though. Expect more work.

the silver looks great on these cars & it seems to be in good condition. at $23,250 now, wonder what it will sell for.
the wheels are nice but the tires are way too short, 275/40 are ~2.5" tall, looks terrible with the big gaps above the tires. Last edited by 78w72; 09-09-2021 at 09:02 AM. |

I know I’ve been looking for a nice 70 bird roller and haven’t been able to find one in good shape.
Like that car a lot really like the honey combs mersonally but everyone has different taste That’s what makes seeing other peoples cars fun.

Sounds like the new owner is totally stoked about getting it.
From what I read it was a bidding war between two guys who wanted it bad. My private guess was 70k to Norwood as he thought 40k. So, I’m not surprised. https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=de...ture=emb_title

Bunch of expense is going to be needed to be incurred this one out of the BugSmacker realm. Bidding war is right. the commenter on BAT that thought it was well bought, have to disagree.

Everywhere I look ...I see parts that don't belong on a 72 455 HO Formula. Less than 300 W66' 455 HO's were built in 72... This...is not unlike modifying a 69 Trans am...It doesn't need any help to be what it's supposed be Now if they had started with a 350 Formula...different story... I hope whoever bought it...is happy with their purchase.. |

Here’s some reasons why people like these so much they pay up for them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8guIW-2_8PU People don’t just restore them for throphies… But at 1 of 82 the PHS, Color and who built them mean fun to drive!
