Just found this out so thought I'd pass it along. Putting in a 3.90 posi in a '65 GTO. Ordered the Richmond gear Ring and Pinion kit and the Installation kit. Everything went fine till I tried to put the pinion seal in. It was way to big to even fit in the housing. Contacted Richmond, they searched their books and couldn't find any different seals. I checked the Pontiac Parts Books (1970 edition) and they show two different seals (9773216 - 1 5/8" ID x 2 21/32" OD - use with 1373578 pinion flanges) and (9793685 - 1 7/8" ID x 2 3/4" OD - use with 9783530 pinion flanges). Note: the '75 parts book only listed the 9793685 seal.

Went to local parts store and did a little research. Yhey listed about 4 or 5 seals in their National Catalog, but all were simular to the 9793685 seal. Finally checked another catalog (sorry, don't know which one it was). That had one listed that seemed to be the 9773216 seal. The parts store didn't have that one in stock, however, they crossed the number to National (a 8620N) and it worked.

Bottom line if you are doing a early 8.2" 10 bolt and the pinion seal is too big, try the National 8620N
