Default Fuel Line Routing at Thermostat Housing

Need to get a new fuel line that runs between the fuel pump and quadrajet on my 69 Grand Prix. The original production fuel line got removed and tossed out decades ago so I can't use it as a reference. When looking in the Ames catalog they list two different lines based on how the line routes at the thermostat housing. One routes past the housing on the driver's side and the other routes on the passenger side. Have looked at many pictures of lines on other G/P's and have seen it both ways. Anyone know what determines what side the line should route on? If it matters my G/P was an October 1968 build. Also I'm using an original type AC fuel pump that has the fuel line (going to the carb) attach on the bottom fitting on the pump and not the side fitting.
