Yep, project is a good word for it! Looks like you've got a good start on it. What are your plans?

Man, I love these project pictures! I think I like them better than seeing finished show cars, because I can relate to them. I can sense the unbridled enthusiasm coming right thru the photos, and it's my favorite part - just like unwrapping a present on Christmas!
Please post more as the adventure continues!

Probablly not, but I am new at this. If you check some of the older posts about rust, you will see some really scary stuff. And they were refturned to normal! Good luck!

"Is it really that bad" is all relative. Seems as though you have a plan. You'll have good days and not so good days. Keep posting pics. I love this stuff.

Project T/A
Wow! Thats going to be some work. It will be worth it in the end. Maybe I should get myself together to finish mine. Next would be my 74 GTO(next to my Firebird), which might take awhile.

I dont know anything about TA's.... But you have your hands full but you can do it as you are showing. Take your time and have a good plan, finish one part then move on to another. Good luck.

I have 42 more days of school till I graduate hs to get the quarters, inner fenders, rockers, and floorpans in. The other side of the car needs the same attenion. I work on it 2 hours a day. I'm getting kinda worried that I won't get all the new parts welded in. I need to get this done in school because all we got at home is a stick welder and no wire-feed and I'm trying to convince my dad to get a wire feed but I'm not having much luck.

Honestly.... 42 days doing two hours a day is not going to cut it. If you where doing 8 or 10 hours a day you might make it. You have alot of work ahead of you. Your replacing the floorpans, quarters etc, are you cleaning the accesiable pieces at the same time or not worrying about what is underneath? If you cleaning as you go (and I sure hope you are) you have a long road ahead. Can be done, but two hours a day is tough. Do you have a summer job? If so save up for a good MIG welder. Not expensive can be found anywhere from $300 and up complete. Look in the want adds for someone selling etc. Good luck.

I know it's not enough but I'm sure gonna bust my ass. yes I'm cleaning everything I can as I go. yea summer job is 6am to 6:00pm monday-saturady then the everyday 2 hours worth of hog chores every night and whatever else there is to do farm related.
What are these 2 holes for? They are on both sides of the car and don't look stock at all. Looks like they were cut with a torch I'm filling them in with sheetmetal... Last edited by 78_TA_Freak; 03-22-2006 at 02:16 AM. |

I wouldn't fill those holes up. I don't know what they are and they look kinda ragged but I can't imagine that the quarters have been replaced before....so that suggests that they've always been there.
I suspect that they may be there to relieve pressure in the cabin when the windows are up and you slam the door shut...or something like that. Anyway, I don't see where they could cause any problems so I'd leave 'em.

By looking at your previous pics, it looks like it has had skins installed once. Given that the car has had it's share of body work, I am guessing that someone blasted those holes to pop out some dents from the back side.
Who knows...

The shop pussy Flash. He showed up last week now he lives in the shop. He is now a gray and black cat....
Inner Rear fender is in along with the new section of rocker panel I made. I'm fixing the rust on the rear taillight panel and I'm almost done then I can put the quater panel back on. I cut those holes back out I figured they wouldn't hurt anything and they must be there for a reason or something.... Smoothing out the front inner fender Front fender Inside of it. I don't know what the hell they cut it for but owell. It was a 1/4" gap all the way around it sucked ass! Welds look like ****! Took a half hour just to weld that damn stuff burns through in a 1/4 second tack weld! I have it ground down and smoothed out now and all the dents pounded out. |

Hard to get bearings where the holes are. Looks like the access holes to unbolt rear wheel spoiler studs.
