1970 Firebird Chrome Tail Pipes - are these original?
Are these tail pipes 1970 originals? They are from a 1970 Firebird Formula.
Please let me know if more pictures or info are needed. Thanks.

what would any of you suggest for the best source for replacement 70 tips?
I bought some of the first run of PY repops, I was quite disappointed with the terrible chrome quailty... (those are them in my picture) These ones are probably good enough to get re-chromed... Or maybe the repops are getting better quality now??

ha!
that level of disarray didn't last too long... that's what happens when house renos are happening on the cheap, and the car gets sidelined a bit... doing flooring over much of the main floor right now - but I can report nothing is on the (partially assembled) car.

Tips. I Very Highly recommend Gardner exhaust. They are just perfect, and thick triple chrome. That said, You may have to buy the exhaust to be able to quality for tips, OR send them your last over axle pieces so they ensure a perfect fit. I think Mine cost 250, but I think BJ has bought that exhaust a lot closer to now than I have. Gardner has both tips. Many will cringe at the price, but I will say its worth it.

We all assume the 48-degree cut replaced the 25-degree cut with the beginning of the 1971 model year, and that may very well be the case, but the original blueprint for the tailpipe extension shows a modification date of mid-July 1970.
I've been trying to determine if it was indeed with new model year production or if the 48-degree cut was phased during the 1971 model year shortly after production startup. The UAW strike really wreaked havoc on early 1971 model year production and a lot changed when production resumed, so finding photos of early 1971 model year Pontiacs has been difficult. |
