John,
Do you know if anyone has had a Pontiac on a Spin Tron? Stan

But doesn't answer my question on John's pushrod angles or others running the wide ported eheads? They can be pushing a lot of rope too.

Again what RPM are they turning? You know how loads go up with the increase in RPM they are not linear. Stan

I don't know?
Langer would know, the ECM boys would know? I'm sure it is a lot more than I run.

I don't have any valve train calculations. But if I use piston, rod, and crankshaft calculation, with the only change being RPM. @ 9200 RPM the load is about 50% greater than @ 7500 RPM. Stan

It's a subjective issue... I personally would be comfortable calling anyhead that bolts to a Pontiac block a Pontiac... however! Some are more traditional and will only accept it as a Pontiac if it is layedout like a head PMD produced... there is no right or wrong opinion...its just that, an opinion...

Oh traditional! Just where does that end? Pontiac ever offer roller lifters? Pontiac ever offer shaft rocker arms? How about changing the placement of the lobes on the cam and firing order? How about raised cam? Shouldn't the cam location be fixed?
I believe it should be all or nothing and am for the all side. Stan

Exactly why we are running a Ram Air V layout. Straight pushrods, stout rigid simple inline valvetrain. We have been 11,300 RPM under load with no damage. (by accident when we had a little transmission failure, on the 1-2 shift.). Normal trap RPM is 8700-9000

I mean, its fine if that is what you want to do. But we race Pontiacs because we want to not be like everyone else and to play the underdog. Pontiac heads get weight breaks in certain classes for a reason. Put their BBC head on and you loose that and do not get the fat bore to help either. A Pontiac has the center ex BS, siamesed intake runners, crap oil system and we deal with it. Or, a RAV is a Pontiac but not really better unless blown. Heads like Langers are still a Pontiac IMO. Still have the center ex BS to deal with and siamesed intake runners. |
