here is a well lit picture, the right end of the Z needs to be under the blue gauge divider directly against the metal cluster housing. Might not be the problem but it caused me a couple of odd electrical gremlins.

All is right with the world again!
All the gauges are working fine now and we figured out the culprit was old oxidized connections on the original 52 year old dash harness. Unplugging and replugging important connectors several times must have cleaned them off enough to establish better connections again. The headlight switch was also complicit causing the weird glowing lights and spastic gauge movements and reestablishing a good connection seemed to fix those issues too. It's always the simple things that can stump you, but sticking with it and walking away to clear your head can work wonders. Thanks for everyone's help and comments.

Checked the bulbs in the new dash gauges & tach, and they are all working. The cell phone doesn't take the best pictures when in really dark conditions.

I remember driving my Firebird on the highway at night;
I loved the glow of the gauges.

Yes, me too! They are bright enough with new standard filament bulbs...not LED's.

Finally got the 'CL' 14x7 steel wheels from Steve Johns (Commanche) this past Thursday. We've been trying to get this deal done since 2019 when the borders shut down. So, almost 3 years later, we finally finished the deal. The wheels came off a base Firebird 350 originally from southern Californian then Arizona for most of it's life and are all dated 1/16/70 (my spare CL is 4/09/70). The wheels are original Castilian Bronze as was the Firebirds body color too, and was equipped with the optional trim rings which left only minor scratches due to the lack of moisture and minimal corrosion. The CB paint looks amazing still as does the black backsides. I haven't cleaned them up yet, but will do that before I paint them Lucerne Blue. I'm going to leave the backsides in their original black paint. Thanks Steve for saving them for me!

interesting;
Almost every CL wheel I can recall seeing was a Motor Wheel stamping; These are Kelsey Hayes. The set of four that I bought (undated) were Norris wheels, but considering how hard they seem to be to find, I was happy to get them. My fifth (the first one I got) was a March date too iirc.

yes.
one has a crack on one spot of the rubber sidewall; It appears as though it may have been used several times. The other one looks very nice. IIRC the older ones had two valve stems, or one funny one - these only have one conventional valve stem.

So.original was a 14 but they don't make space saver tire any more? And next best thing is the 15 inch? Hmm now I see why dad had a actual extra tire in trunk. Lol
