Thank you all for your replies. I'll figure out something when I get back onto the project. I was just curious what options were available and if I had missed an outcome to this thread.

Well, its been several months since this topic was last replied on. Has there been any increased interest or info or progess on replacement cams?

The interest is there, the problem is finding a company to invest in the manuacturing of the cam. Another problem is they need the core to custom grind the cam. These cam companies are not producing these cores. Some have a few cores laying around and will grind one down for $400. Seems pretty steep since V8 cams are less than half that price. Two companies that will work with us are Nunzi and Butler, but expect to pay a hefty price to them for it.
I spoke to Isky who used to manufacture cams for the 4 banger back in the 80's and he wasn't able to help either. I spoke with the guys at Butler Performance when I was in Norwalk last summer and they seem interested in working with us. We should find out how many are still interested and get Butler a count so they can price it out. How many will want a stock 4 barrel cam and how many will want a high performance cam. Then we would have to define the high in performance too. While we are at it, see if we can get them to produce an aluminum intake too. I thought about contacting Edlebrock since they like to produce the entire product from the heads up. First we need to get a count of who wants what. |

I haven't heard anything. Just regrinds for good stock cams. I eneded up using a wild solid roller in mine. It's all I could find at the time and I din't think it's any easier now.

Searched for months and called every company from coast to coast, and found that nothing is available. No one has blank cores.
Had to regrind. |

Very interesting grind!! The factory performance cam is around .410 lift with Lots more duration, 270-80 ish. Thats cams specs .480 lift @ only a 208 duration?? Did you actually put a dial indicator on it to double check the specs on the box? What would those specs be good for?? A turbo or boosted application??

This is duration at .050", not advertised duration, which is where a factory 270 number comes from.
I'm moving the cam sale to my '63 T4 for sale thread (link below). Didn't intend on hijacking this thread with it...
