303 Pontiac Engine at Norwalk
This was by far the neatest thing I saw in the swap meet area. What a piece of history.

Said to come from Buck Baker.Incorrect carb and balancer,pretty much everything else looked good.I have owned 2 of them that I did strokers too.One was 366 which a board member owns now and the othe 390 CI which was in my 69 TA that sold at Mecum last Saturday.Would like to have it was just not worth the 25K to me with out the carb and balancer.Tom

Cool that they consider those stamped steel rockers good enough for an engine like that.

Tom, did they modify the RA-V intake to allow installing the 3-Barrel 950 cfm carb in the intake?

As a bonus, Dimitri Toth was at Norwalk to detail the machining & history of this engine. He still works at GM in their engine development area. The original engineering drawings called this a 302, but Chevrolet didn't like Ponitac having the same designation as their own 302, so management forced the change to 303.
It's interesting to note that the later 301 Pontiac engine used the same 1/2" lower deck height as the 303. Too bad they didn't stick with the stout bottom end of the 303. Priceless piece of history for Pontiac lovers, but $25K was a little high.

The bracket was for either the birds or A bodies.The mount on the intake was setup to work with that bracket.Chuck Henley repoped the unique brackets.Tom

I really like how 'Tom S' actually runs these engines... where as it seems that most others use them a paperweights.

I bought a set of 303 heads,a intake and carb at Norwalk.I have a std deck 303 block being built as a 428 right now,hope to have it on the dyno the end of the month.I have a ready to build 301 turbo block here that I might put the 303 heads on it with a factory X ram 2-4 intake.Thats in the future maybe.Tom

Seeing those spread out ports on a Poncho sure gets ones attention!
X3 on Tom S at the forefront of continued exotica testing in the real world. But I bet he has a cool paperweight too, ha...………..

LOL,I really dont.My problem is im not a collector.I build stuff and when im tired of it I move it on to someone else to enjoy.I have lost count on how many V engines I have built,think it around 7-8.I said the 366 NASCAR was my last but got sucked back in and had to go out in the market and buy stuff to put another together.My issue now is balancers,no clue where to find one after this current engine.Tom

Actually, I have seen pictures of a Boss 9 in one guy's house and a Hemi Cuda Convertible in another guy's house. What a freaking shame.
