What is the difference in the 55 lifter from the 56 &newer?
I see they are different part numbers, I thought the only valvetrain differences was 55 had adjustable rockers, Different rockers, studs, nuts. Just curious |

I think (but have NO first hand knowledge) that the oil supply was at a different height in the lifter bore, therefore the oil supply grooves in the lifter is inn a different position.

I think those are called "lowball" lifters.If you have a later lifter check the diff of the seat.I think after talking to Nunzi years ago I used a set with longer pushrods.Tom

If the oil band is low, wouldn't SBC lifters work?

Interesting the lifters I have on hand the oil hole looks in the same location although larger?The 56 looks higher than the 951s also?Tom

text from Larry's post above: "A new valve train is used and requires no adjustment (Fig. 10). This was accomplisheo by moving the valve lifter oil supply hole upward to insure ample oil reserve (Fig. 11)"
