Gas Tank Stencils??
We've probably all seen pictures of beautifully restored TA's and Formulas with pics of the bottom rear showing a nice USS Steel stencil on the BOTTOM of the tank. I've wondered if this is the correct placement. Several I've owned or parted (mainly Van Nuys builds) had a stencil on the top of the tank. Also, these were from Arvin, as my pic show.
Is this simply another Van Nuys vs. Norwood difference, top vs. bottom? I get the fact that with a very high dollar resto, why place the stencil on the top where no one will ever see it. But...... |

If you look closely, you will see IRVIN. I'm sure the raw metal sheet was roll stamped and it ended up somewhere on the formed steel part (maybe even on the inside).

I was debating irvin vs. Arvin. I went with Arvin based on memory (oh-oh!) of previous tank stencils I've seen. But I think you're right. That is a dot over the first 'I'.
