1970 T/A stripes
The '70 T/A is coming out of the paint shop soon after being held hostage for almost three years. I had originally asked the shop to paint the stripes on the car instead of using the decals but I am having second thoughts on this and wondered if other T/A owners had the stripes painted on and how that turned out. Basically I am trying ti figure out which would be the best way to go about getting the correct stripes on the car with either reproduction stripe kit or have them painted on. Any feedback would be appreciated.

What color is the car?

I’d use reproduction decals over paint. I wouldn’t trust them to get the stripes right with paint

Yes. That is what I am afraid of and after all this time I want it to be as correct as possible. Any recommendations for reproduction graphics?

A forum member named Greg worked with Ralph at Stencils and Stripes to get them to recreate the decals from original GM stripes. We did a group buy a few years back since they needed a good number of pre-orders to make sure the up-front work was worth it. Now they have them on the shelf.

Paint will never match the dot matrix pattern on the sticker.

This is why I thought I had better ask here about the stripes as I have never had a chance to look closely at a correctly done blue '70-'72 T/A so I did not realize the design and the dot matrix part of the stripes, but in doing a bit of research it began to appear more complex than I had figured so as usual, I came here seeking advice. Thanks all for saving me a big head ache. Stencils and stripes is sending the entire stripe kit to me so the painter's job will be much easier.

My '70 has painted on stripes. They look good... but they aren't right.... but the car isn't right either.

Only a very few early blue cars got a dot pattern stripe. A member here has one. Very early in the production run the stripe was changed to solid black and white

OK. Now I am confused. So does the Stencils and Stripes kit feature the dot pattern or the later version of the stripes? As I mentioned before, I have never had the opportunity to look at one of these cars in real life so I was unaware there were two versions of the stripe.

JMO, if I had a blue car, I would still prefer the sticker over a painted stripe because that's how they came. Again, JMO |
