What kind of tires were standard on a 69 Judge? Are they still available?

The '69 The Judge came standard with G70-14 blackwall, load range B, 2 body polyester plys/2 tread fiberglass plys, and sourced from Goodyear, part no. 9787359. Optional were the G70-14 white line or red line (B, 2P/2FG), sourced from Firestone, Goodrich, Goodyear or Uniroyal.

Firestone still makes the G70-14 'Wide Oval' tires in Raised White Letter, Pin White Stripe and Redline.
Goodyear makes a 'Collector Series Performance Tire' in G70-14 'Custom Wide Tread 2/2 Polyglas' tire in Raised White Letter, .350" Red Stripe and .350" White Stripe.
They ain't cheap (~$775/set of 5), but then, what is? I just wish they made a blackwall version, I hate the idea of buying whitewalls and turning them around to be correct.

So, how do you find a balance between correct tires (non-radial) and the better handling/ride/wear of a radial tire? I'm only driving my car around and hitting some local shows. Do the correct tires make a difference?

Have two sets. One for driving, and one for showing. My '70 Judge has 15" Rally IIs on it with Radials. I am in the proces of restoring a set of correct JT Rally IIs with correct Polyglas tires, but will probably only throw those wheels on for a Regional show. I'd leave the radials on for local shows/cruise nights.

I drive my Judge pretty regularly in the nice weather. Manual trans (yeah!) manual brakes (not bad), and manual steering (ugh).

In case you are interested, i have a set
of four G70-14 firestone red-line repro tires
that are one year old with fifty miles on them that I took off my car because i decided to go with redline radials. I paid Coker tire 500.00
for them...will sell for 350.00.

it depends if your going for looks or how they drive, radials will handle better.
i just put the firestone wide ovals on my judge, & let me tell you they look AWSOME & period correct. as far as handling, im not challanging a ferrari into the corners, im just HAPPY to be in my car away from work & my wife

That's what I'm planning to do, G70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires turned around on my original wheels for judged shows, and a set of Specialty Wheels Chrome Rally IIs (Available from our host) shod with P245/60R14 Goodrich Radial T/As for everything else. Although, I may go bigger in back. I thought of going with P265/50R16s (same dia. as G70-14s but much wider), but, I don't think they'll fit up front!

Here is my tire dilemma:

I am entering my 69 Judge in Concours judging at POCI next week. I just got Goodyear g70-14 polyglass redlines for the show, Kelsey did not have blackwalls.

My car did not come with the optional polyglass redlines.

Do I :

1.) put them on anyway, and hope the judge allows it w/o deduction.

2.) turn them around with blackwalls facing out, knowing that the judges will spot that in a second

3.) use tire black on the redlines ?

Taximan, you have no dilemma! You are allowed to add correct options that were available for your car in POCI point judging.
What you are not allowed to do is falsify the
Judge option or the original colors of the car.
My 79 Trans Am that got Concours Delegance 400
out of 400 points two years ago has several otions that it did not come with! Put the redlines on with redlines out if you like the way they look. If you would rather have blackwalls, paint the redlines black and turn the tires around.

gtohurstjudge:

You just solved one problem for me.

I am down to paint daubs, and putting on concours stickers.

My only other problem before leaving Wed. morning is to find a glass shop that wil put in my correct dated side quarter glass.

if not, then i will take a 6 point hit for 2 aftermarket glass panels.

I am leaving at 5:00 am Wed. I should be Greenville by 6:00 pm. I am staying at the Amerisuites.

I will send you my cellphone # by PM. Ring me when you get there.
