I've had a few inquiries about scratches in glass.
Instead of replying to the e-mails, I thought it might be better to post it here.
Sometimes small scratches can be polished out of glass.
Depending on the severity, and cost of replacement glass, may dictate whether or not it's worth the trouble.
If the scratch is more along the lines of a scuff, or very fine.
Then a glass shop can polish these out to an extent.
Remember, whenever something like Jewelers rough, and a hard glass wheel are used.
You're actually removing glass to polish.
Because of this, Polishing glass scratches in any part that is in the Drivers view is not recommended.
Since the probability of distortion increases.
Small scuffs, and light discoloration that can occur from a soft metal can be polished the same way I discussed about water spots.
If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, it's too deep to use this method.
If you have to take your car to a glass shop for scratch polishing, you need to remember this is a very labor intensive procedure.
So the time necessary to polish out a scratch might cost more then replacing the glass.
