After a complete rebuild, I find that I might not have set the valves correctly. How do you determine the preload on the lifters? I am told that you have to lock the nuts on the tappets rather than set them as you do in a Chevy. What happens if you preload more than 50 or 60 thousandths? Do you have to order a special size pushrod?

By all means use the polylocks...
Better settings more RPM.
Here This will help you out.
Enjoy your "68"!

Another option is to install a set of Chevy rocker studs and nuts.

Thanks, Jeff. I am searching for a dealer for Mr. Gasket poly locks. I am having a hard time finding someone. Summit Racing doesn't list Mr. Gasket poly locks. Do you have a supplier in mind>? Bill

Crane Kool Nuts are available from Summit and many others. They lock with allen screws just like polylocks and are supposed to work well with stock Pontiac stamped rockers. I have used the Mr. Gasket brand as well, found them at a local speed shop on the shelf. Here's a link to the Kool Nuts:

Thanks guys. Went to Summit and purchased the "Kool Nuts". They did not have nor did they recommend Mr. Gasket. I found that hard to believe but anyhow I should be on my way. Thanks again.
