On the street motor I have Nunzi #2700 chrome steel valve covers, paid $65 for them years ago. They are a tall version and plain without a logo. Very good quality.
(I suspect they were subcontracted out to Moroso and made without lettering)

THIS TOPIC JUST PROVES HOW HARD IT IS TO FINND A DECENT PONTIAC VALVE COVER THAT DOESNT COST AN ARM AND A LEG. I WISH EDELBROCK WOULD MAKE SOMETHING BILLET THAT LOOKS NICE, I CANT STAND THEIR VALE COVERS THAT THEY HAVE NO, SO UGLY, NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE THAT HAS THEM

The Mooneyes MP646 polished finned alum valve cover is a really, really good looking piece.
But again it's not a tall cover and valvetrain fit is an issue. Also has similar issues with use of a spacer. Plus breather availability and fitment is limited unless modified.
Retail $215

Question:
Would one be willing to spend the money for a set of no-logo, sheet aluminum covers similar to those on my 474?
I am going to visit my fab guy this week and see if I might be able to offer these at a lower cost than $300, maybe somewhere of $240-250.

Larry:

Yes.

But, have him work on providing nice ROUNDED corners, just like a real Pontiac valve cover.

Unique accomplishes this well, but fails to do so on a billet rail.

Your Billet Fab units and my Moroso units both look like hell with the squared-off corners.

They look like a coffin or something. But, definitely NOT like a Pontiac cover.

Scott, how thick are the "rails" on that VC? I thought about the same thing about the rounded corners. The shop I use has a press brake that can put a 3/4" or 1" bend on the corners but I didnt think that would look very well. Thought this would cause the top to have to be flatten out and make it look cheap. Ever seen a set like this made up? Guess I'll have to try a test bend

Larry- as Scott described similar to the Unique covers, yes I'd be interested in a set. Also address the bunkie welding around the bolt holes

I'd also add that I bought a weld-in bung and cap kit from ProWerks and had Moroso weld it in.

A quick trip to the anodizer, along with a bunch of other stuff (blower belt guards, idler pulley bracket (Barcak), blower pulleys, aluminum valley cover, etc. provided the finish you see here.

A BILLET SET IN THE 250 RANGE WOULD BE GREAT, IF ANYONE KNOWS SOMEONE THAT CAN FABRICATE SOME IM SURE THEY WOULDNT HAVE A PROBLEM FINDING BUYERS. ITS ALWAYS BEEN HARD TO FIND PONTIAC VALVE COVERS THAT LOOK NICE. A LOT OF RACERS, KAUFFMAN, BUTLER, ETC HAVE VALE COVERS OF THEIR OWN, BUT I DONT REALLY CARE TO HAVE SOMEONES LOGO ON THEM, NO OFFENSE TO THEM, ITS JUST I PREFER A CLEAN LOOK, NO LOGOS, AND IF ANY ONLY A PONTIAC LOGO

Correct. Unless they're paying you to advertise for them, for the entire length of time that you have their product in public view.

I specifically had to state to Moroso "no logos" when I ordered mine.

I had to wait two weeks for another batch of oil fill caps to work their way through the system at ProWerks in order for them to pull a couple, sans ProWerks logo, out to send to me. On top of that, I had to kiss the customer service lady's fanny like you would not believe, in order to to have her accomodate this seemingly minor request.

Good!
I'm working on a design using my covers(for dimensional info).
Then I would presume that most folks agree on the look of a round corner cover, like UNIQUE vs. the "coffin" style?

Larry, Definately interested in a round corner valve cover vs. coffin style.

Tim.

Larry- Like the Unique, make sure they will fit over a shaft system and a stud girdle.

Not only that, Steve, but the need to be CNC'd to clear the pushrod side of big ratio (1.8?) rocker arms. John Langer advised me that he had to clearance his Morosos quite a bit in order to get them to clear. Perhaps he could add to this.

The distance across the rails on mine is 4.375". Perhaps, instead of being straight across between the the bolt holes (as viewed from above), the rail can be cut OUT (toward the intake manifold) to allow for more clearance. The result would be a narrower rail.

I guess I am the only one who likes the style and look of factory valve covers. I like both the early and late styles. I don't care for the BBC look valve covers for myself but, to each their own. Everything I have ever built has used stock valve covers. I have nothing in to my valve covers except for a $5 can of paint.

The billet covers I have work with a girdle.
Would they work as well, with a shaft setup?
