I've seen conflicting information regarding the part numbers of '69 RA IV distributors. Was the 1111970 distributor ever used in '69? I've seen information that states that the 1111941 was replaced by the 1111970 after 12/12/68, although I've seen several 1111941's dated well after this date. I've also seen information that states that the 1111970 replaced the 1111941 late in '69 on manual cars only. Has anyone got a handle on this?

Most sources state that the 1111970 was used in RAIII manual trans applications replacing the 1111952 used in standard cars.

#1111970 is for 1969 T/8 400 S.T., H.O.-H.T. (M-40) 4B.C., according to to the MPC REV. 1-1-70.

Delco manual Rev. 11-25-96 suggests #1111970 is for 400 4 BBL RAM AIR IV (LATE ?).
Ignition advance curve is identical to the #1111941, according to the Delco manual.

I´ve got one #1111970 that´s dated 8 M 13, guess that´s 12-13-68.

Have had numerous different date produced "1941's" . Many many were built... (unlike "2011"s for '70). Of two "1941's" documented as original being in original cars, each were original to 04A & 05C built RA4 Judges.

Have to do some serious digging in old records to find the dates produced. Typically, the '68-71 roundport application original dated distributors were not built on a lot of different dates. Original "2011's" were built on one date, & original "2073's" on at 4 different dates.

I've been asking because after seeing some conflicting information I became suspicious that the 1111941 distributor may not be correct for my '69 RA IV auto Judge, which was assembled the end of May. I was hoping that someone might also have a '69 RA IV auto GTO or Judge assembled around this time or later that I could use as a reference. It looks as though I am probably safe with the 941 as you guys have all referenced the 970 as a manual trans application. Thanks for the input.

BLKBRD, one more time,
#1111970 is for 1969 T/8 400 S.T., H.O.-H.T. (M-40) 4B.C., according to to the MPC REV. 1-1-70.

If we can trust the MPC, it was used on A/T transmissions too.............

And the Delco manual didn´t specify transmission........

Mike, sorry meant "2011's", went back & editted my above post (what happened to the one hour edit time limit?) "2012" 455 distributors were produced on quite a few dates & are much more common compared to the "2011".

I suspect that the MPC was used as the reference source for one of the ID guides that I obtained the info from. I have yet to be able to identify a '69 RA IV auto car that was assembled from the factory with a 970 distributor. Any vehicle that has been brought to my attention that has the 970 distributor has always been a manual car. This would agree with once source of information that I obtained off of the internet. Is it possible that the 970 was the service replacement for the 941?

This info is from GTOAA´s The Legend Magazine;
1969 #1111970 400 4bbl Ram Air M/T (late).
1969 #1111941 400 4bbl Ram Air IV.

In the MPC REV. 3-74 the usage of #1111941 is, 1968 F/8-T/8 Ram Air (late), 1969 F/8-T/8 Ram Air-IV AND 1969 T/8 400 S.T., H.O.-H.T. (M-40) 4B.C.

I would say we can trust the MPC, the #1111970 was never intended for RAIV usage, i should say it was for the D-port T/8 400 S.T., H.O.-H.T. (M-40) 4B.C. engine.

This late application for these engines might have something to with the change from the #744 cam to the 068 camshaft?

Kenth,

Thanks for the additional info. It looks as though the 941 is correct for my application.
