Does anyone have any experience wiring up an indash tach (factory) with the msd ignition. I have looked at the instructions for both the tach and the MSD. Both ways I have tried and it still doesn't work. Do I need some kind of adapter? Or am I doing something wrong.

Yes, there is an adapter for that.
some years ago I had a car that I put a mds ignition in and used the original tach. The factory tach has one wire going to it, it gets its trigger and power
from the one wire. most other tachs have seperate
wires for trigger and power. Just specify that differance at your speed shop.
