Looking to fit a 15X10 with M/T et radials on my 79 t/a. What backspacing would I have to go with to tuck them in and keep them from rubbing. Pics would be great.

What size drag radials? Must be big, if you need a 10" rim.

I had 5" backspacing on mine, with 29x10 Hoosier slicks. It also required rolling the lip on the inside of the wheelwell opening at the top, as well as hammering in the bulge below the rear seat belt mount on the inside of the wheelwell, to get enough clearance to fit these tires. Running a tire this large will also require the removal or modification of the fender spats.

It's screwed up.

Two threads farther down show latest posts from torment and someone else, but when you open the thread, the posts aren't there.

I use 15x10 with 4 1/2 backspacing on my street tires (L60-15 M/T Sportsman I's)
Sledge hammer surgury is required in the inside wheelwell. You may also have to take a wizzer wheel to the stud sticking out of the shock for clearance. Other wise you may knock off your wheel weights.

I ran 29.5 x 11.5 MT ET drags on a 15x10 wheel with 5 inch backspacing. Had to "modify" the wheelwell with a BFH and still had issues with the tire growing and rubbing here and there, mostly on the front fender spat as Brian said.

Went to a weld 15x10 draglite with 4.5 backspacking running a 28x11.5 MT ET drag and I have no clearance issues at all.

So around a 5" backspacing would be about the norm for this size rim. I am still debating if I want a 10" rim or 8" rim. What kind of backspacing would a 15x8 call for? I plan on running the new mt et street radials. 15x10 size would be 28 tall with a 13"section and 11" tread. 15x8" tire would be 26tall 11 section 10 tread. I'm guessing a 15x8 will fit without any modification? I'm going to be running in non electronics and street classes at my local track but I'm not sure what the wheel requirements are there. Unless its an nhra event they kinda setup their own rules.

I had planned on running around 26 to 28 tall on draglites.

I ran a 4 7/8" backspace on my old 79 with a 10" rim and had no problems. I rolled the inner lip arounf the wheelwell with a baseball bat though to keep from rubbing the taller tire. I just placed it at the back of the tire up against the lip and had someone put the car in neutral and rolled the bat around using the car's own weight as leverage to roll the lip rather than cut it leaving a sharp edge. Just be carefull not to roll the quarter panel itself...

Before switching to 15x10 Convo Pro's with 5" b.s. and 29x10 Hoosiers, I ran 15x8 snowflakes (4.5" b.s.)...first with 26x12.50 ET Streets, and then with 28x11.50 ET Streets. Neither tire had rubbing issues or required wheelwell hammer surgery.

I've found 4 7/8" on my AutoDrag's to be perfect. I've run 28x11.5 ET drags without rubbing.

Does all this assume clearance with the Rear Disc Emergency Brake cable...inquiring minds want to know!

I had a 29x10 hoosier on a 15x10 weld with 5 1/2 bs. A couple of whacks with a hammer at the seat belt bolt area and it all fit under with no problem.

Good question.

On the 15x8 snowflakes combo, yes...they cleared the rear disc emergency brake cables.

On the 15x10 combo, I can't say...as I removed the disc rear for a drum rear.

Check the clearance of the caliper to the rim when going to the ten inch rim. A ten inch Cragar SS won't turn with the disc rearend. It gets jammed up on the caliper. Ten inch aluminum slots clear it easily.

Still deciding on whether to go with 8 or 10". But shouldn't have any problems as I have a drum rear. Thanks for all the input btw. Its greatly appreciated.
