I found this exhaust system from a truck-related BBS and was wondering if any of you guys ever seen anything like it. It "looks" like some sort of gimmick. I wonder if it would be of any performance gain on an older street car that doesnt have catalytic converters?

Reminds me of some of the product descriptions I have seen in the J.C. Whittney catalogs.

I would venture to say that it is a reversion chamber or a resonance chamber. Both have been proven to work in increasing torque by helping to increase scavenging in full exh. systems.I use a similar idea on open headers by step tuning into alarger pipe with a cross-over that has an expansion chamber.

I thought it looked like a motorcycle muffler too. I cant tell which end of it is the inlet though.

Copying from the motorcycle exhaust, I have a set of megaphones that I made for my headers, hoping for a performance gain. I thought they would be really loud but they were actually quieter than the open headers.

Looks to me like 2-stroke motorcycle technology as applied to a 4-stroke auto. It's been proven that stepped headers and/or exhaust improves torque/power over a given "single diameter" pipe on a 4-stroke, I'm not so sure that expansion chamber technology will work on a 4-stroke like it does on a 2-stroke.
