What brand of roller rockers and bearings(i.e. rod, main, cam) do some of you guys prefer? Will be used in a Super Duty 455 that will be mainly a street car but may see ocassional strip use. Engine will be rebuilt basically to stock specs.Appreciate any suggestions!!

I prefer to use Clevite bearings and the Crane gold roller rockers. Never had a problem with either of them.

Thanks PROBRD! Had read somewhere that Clevites might score a crank if it wasn't hard chromed should particles embed themselves in the bearings.Maybe some old tech!Much truth to that statement? Also wondering if Crane Gold rockers come in a 1.5 ratio for 7/16" studs?

I've had good luck with the Omega roller rockers. They come in 1.5 or 1.6 ratios and are only $214 a set from Jim Butler.

I have run Crower 1.6 ratio roller rockers for over three years now. They run a little over $200 (same as other quality rockers) and so no signs of wear.

I have Harland Sharp rockers. Mine get noisy after motor is warm. It sounds like every wrist pin in their is going to go.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Mike,

Are you saying that Omega makes them for Crower? How do you get a hold of Omega?

Dave - No. I ran the Harland Sharp's without any problem. You sure your wristpins are okay? :-D

Why would the motor sound solid when it is cold and loosen up them much when hot?

Thanks Guys! First I've heard of Omega rockers. Sounds like a good piece! Also keep hearing that Clevites work best from others. Thanks again.

Dave - I'm afraid I can't give you a definitive answer to that. Could be a number of different factors. One thing to look at is the weight of oil you're running. A light oil will thin out a lot when the engine warms up, allowing the lifters to bleed down further and creating clearance in the valvetrain. For a performance V8 I prefer straight weight oils, like straight 30-weight for a fresh engine, 40 weight for an old tired engine. They just seem to hold up better.

This assumes the noise you're hearing is indeed valvetrain noise and not something else. Not trying to be alarmist - but I can't possibly form an opinion about what you're hearing without hearing it myself, and even then I might not have a clue.

While speaking to a reputable engine builder I just learned that the Harland Sharps ratios vary greatly from rocker to rocker. He had used them when building engines for years and just recently decided to check their accuracy. He now reccomends CC, Crower or Crane.

Dave, My Harland Sharp Roller rockers are unfairly sloppy aroung the wristpins. Have not had any reliability issues, do not forsee any reliability problems, and thewy inspect well - for reliability.

Performance, mine are sloppy, thus not getting the full benefit of the cam, nor the consistency, for every crank turn. I'd have to give a darn to replace them.

My other motor has the Crane Roller Rockers..the ones that grind into the Valve Retainer..these were 'worn-in' by someone else; Got'em Used [another fine purchase].

My advice is to Dry-Fit the Roller Rocker to your Engine assy before commiting to buying. Kind of a catch-22 if it's an odd-head or valvelength or cam basecircle combo.
