So...a strong block ready to rock out of the box for $1949.99 that needs no boring, decking or machining of any kind...

A forged race proven crank for under 2K…

And a set of heads flowing 400 out of the box for under $5,500 like your new up-coming tiger head right? Price still steep and unproven ...

NEVER buy the first year of ANYTHING , look at the Corvette ZR1.

I'll believe that when I see it, and when someone builds a 600+ Horse 9.5 to 1 naturally aspirated single Carb motor that can withstand 500+ Horses of N2o into it, I'll be back...just have to sell the Chevy by the. I am very wary of this happening by next season's end, I'll check back this time next year and see. Even with the Tiger heads and the IA 2 you’re still looking at nearly 10K for just a bare block and a set of assembled heads…

Listen, I was told by a VERY respected member of this board that BBC was the way to go for me...I'm just taking an old friend's advise, along with the advise of many others now.

Ok Rash, time for counterpoint.

1) The World product block is a POS compared to the IAII. Most of the guys I know run a Dart block and that cost $2500. So much for the Big difference there.

2) What is wrong with a billet crank for under $2K. See post about crowers new cranks.

3) As for the heads, they will happen. Yes they will cost a good bit. I guess they would be cheaper if Dart or AFR were to produce them, but we know that will never happen.

4) Chevy rods vs Pontiac rods, same price.

5) Chevy pistons vs Pontiac pistons, same as well.

6) As for the cost of machine work. I don't know anyone who just buys over the counter parts and throws together a 1100HP motor, except maybe, HOTROD . So you will need to have some work done, or you can do it the second time you build it .

7) As for 500hp N02, I guess thats what chevys need to run fast. LOL.

As you can see, it is cheaper to build a Chevy, always has been. But it is not sooooo much cheaper that you cant step UP to a Pontiac.
I know the fast Pontiac guys have spent alot more on their combos due to R+D and some custom made parts. Lots of years of hard work. So, in comparison, these new parts are going to make it more affordable(not cheap) to run a Pontiac. I wish these guys(Allpontiac) were around 10 years ago.

Some times it is better for certain people to run a chevy or whatever kind of motor. That way we don't have to listen to them bit@h it when things don't go there way. LOL

Paul.
Most people can only state what they read and see in print. Have to agree with Mo.

The factory 4 bolt BBC block will still have issues depending on application. But, Yes A BBC will take more power. Only because Chevy reached it's limits with the SBC and came out with a NEW engine. The BBC with a bigger bore spacing. Thus more support in the main area. Pontiac decided to stick with what they had. Plus if you do research. The Government was stepping in and Race Cars in Street trim were on the out's. Hp/racing and street performance were on the way out. Except with the Chevy division.

BtW: Paul, that Pontiac IA 1 block you owned and I bored and built to 4.375 with the 4.75 Moldex crank you said wasn't up to your expectations and couldn't use is still going strong at 572 cu.in. How many years later?
There are parameters that you need to folow when building a combo that will make more power with less cu.in. Ya just have to do the research and find the groove.

A lot has changed even in the last 2 years. Wait till ya see what the new Tiger heads will do.

Yeah, that's it "find the groove"!

Which in Ray's case shouldn't include a PG.

That's great, and I am glad to hear it. My expectations were 600+ CI on pump gas. I have no gripes over that motor and it’s nice to hear that it’s running well and someone is happy. MO has some very good points, I compare the block I have now to a stock Pontiac block, because the price I paid for this one is the amount of money it cost me to beef up my stock block to handle 700+ HP that’s all. I’ll go back to Pontiac if they start selling complete IA crate motors with “pump gas” compression ration, 600+ horse and within 3K of what I can buy BBC now.

Dave…I can cook and race…did it at Farmington, right Ken?

I am not here to stir the Chevy/Pontiac thing; there’s enough of that on this board to run out of printer ink and paper.

I am a draftsman and I am running a nice little side business, soon to be tattooing along with having a car audio side job, so you can see there is no time for me to be messing with building a Pontiac. I have some employees now, looking for more. I really have been spending most of my time the last three months with my employees and my tattoo practice.

Got one better. Go to the Orlando Speedworld site. The pic of the yellow camaro on the rear bumper.

I was in the other lane when that happened. That was when I ran my 8.93 and no one saw it. All eyes were on the front end smashing to the ground on the Camaro. LOL.
BTW: He qualified and replaced the front end to make eliminations.

Those dudes are now flying with the New M/T Drag Radials. I hope I pick up as much as they did changing tires.

Here's the info on that car from another site ..... BTW he runs 7's.

quote:
Yea look what it took for a Nitrous combo to keep up. Pro Stock heads and 600+ cubic inches.
You two have another thing in common beside both running 7's on Mickey thompsons. You both use 3rd generation Camaro's with a ladder...uh I mean torque arm. Those cars torque arm doesn't bolt to a Ladder bar crossmember from the factory. ( Stock Suspension?? very interesting)
