Is a '69 Grand Prix decklid the same as a '69 GTO?

The '69-70 GP decklid is not the same as '69 GTO.

The '69 GTO decklid is one year decklid with one year stainless trim on the bottom. '69 Tempest or LeMans decklid can be substituted by having emblem holes filled & be made into a GTO decklid. The LeMans decklid will even have the correct lwr beading though usually banged up beyond use 9 out of 10 times.

For the last 15 years, nice straight '69 GTO decklids, with no rust, have been a real tough find even in the SW... IMHO the hardest to find of all GTO decklids. As such, they fetch a premium. I personally value them at twice the price of a like condition '70-72 GTO decklid & do stock & sell them.

only to be out-toughed by the 68 decklid.

68 may have a wider lip than 69...but I'M still vague and unseen on this folklore difference.

Mark, it's not folklore. Take a tape measure with you to your next Pontiac car show if you think it is.

I just measured the distance of the bottom edge on both a 68 LeMans and a 69 LeMans, tip-to-tip where the curves start over the tail lamps.

The 68 is 28", the 69 is 23-1/2".
