Anybody know how far apart the engine components
can be dated from the cowl date? Mine body is dated A01 first week of January 1968.

Just currious how close the numbers need to be, or if engine dates can be a few days ahead of the body.

Found a engine with A088 & car is A01

Sorry, I just realized I should have posted this in Tech forum. Is there a way to move this post?

Mr. ragtop,

The engine date is usually 4-6 weeks before the build date of the body. My car's engine casting dates (block, heads, intake) are 9-26-67. My car was built the first week of November, 1967. The engine you have found was cast a bit early for your car, but why not put it in anyway? Unless you're doing a 100 point concours resto, it really doesn't matter. Besides, '68 was the first year that the car's serial number (last 8 digits) was stamped on a machined pad below the water pump on the passenger's side, just above the oil pan rail. You need a mirror to see it.

I would think the two letter engine code is more important, anyway.
