Anyone know what year Pontiac this is off of. I think it's off of a 50's model but don't know exactly. It is in excellant condition. The contour of the base fits a 68 Firebird hood perfectly. What do you think? would it look ridiculous or would it be kind of cool?

Couldn't find a match in the 50s lineup.
Looks more like mid to late 40s.
I will look further when I get a chance.

I wouldn't put it on the hood of MY '68 Bird (if I had one)...but I'd find somewhere to put it. It's beautiful.

That does look cool. Is it the lighted ornament?

That is beautiful.
Don't know if this site is accurate but here is a good hood ornament site: Looks like Mark is correct -'46.

Thanks guys - the website is great. I guess it's a 46. I know it would look funky on the hood of a Firebird. Its just such a nice piece that I want to put it somewhere but dont know where. I plan on getting a fiberglass hood with some type of scoop to accomodate a Wenzler tunnel ram with 2 660's. Maybe there is a particular style of hood scoop that I could incorporate the ornament on (the scoop)in a way that it would flow with the lines of the scoop ?? It might require a custom scoop to make it look right. What do any of you artistic design type folks think? Any ideas or suggestions.

Norb - Thats a good sugestion but Ive got enough rust to deal with on my 68. Maybe I'll have a hood scoop made in the shape of a 46 Pontiac and mount it on that ---

Hmmmmm.....I'll bet it's a 46.
There's something weird happening lately when I come to this site. People's avatars show up full size as the page is loading. When it finishes, they are back to postage stamp size.
At any rate, I could see Norb's avatar full size for about 5 seconds and the hood ornament was very much like but not identical, to the one you have 10secbird.
It is a very nice car Norb...and welcome to the boards.

I just had a brainstorm. I figured if I could temporarily see that avatar full size that it must be compressed. I saved it to desktop and sure enough, when I viewed it, it was full size.
Now everyone can see it. I guess it's NOT a '46 since the ornament is different.
That picture looks like it was taken in Florida Norb. Am I right?

Greg - If you right click on the Avatar and select properties you will see (if you have XP) where the picture file is actually stored. Norb's avatar is not stored on the PY forum server which has a size limit for your avatar. Check the properties of your avatar and you will see that it is stored on the PY forum server. So if your avatar picture is stored on a homepage provided by your ISP, or something like that, I guess it could be pretty much any size and it will be automatically resized to fit the avatar template.

I never realized that you could use such a large pic for an avatar. I always assumed that it would be rejected if it were over something like 80x80 pixels.
