Buddy just bought one last year rust free Cal car in need of paint for 12k all numbers match. It was on Classical Pontiac. Parts on that car a worth a ton. Restored I dont think they bring a ton. They will never bring what a t/a does. My guess is 22 to 28k if a nice T/a will go from 30 to 40. Good luck with the car

Assessing a value on a HO Formula project car... it would be nice to know what color combination (?) & if any early racing history.
With a really rusty rear body it would prob come down to color combo for me. Quite a few rusty HO Formulas were pirated of parts in the late '70's & up through the 80's. Love to 'em restored, but at what cost? |

The only thing that's stopping them from being worth more than a T/A with the same drivetrain, is that overall, T/A's are generally more desireable... but even then, I've observed ALOT more interest in the early Formulas lately - and the most valuble ones are the: -'70 Ram Air III -'71/72 455HO -'73/74 SD455 The four speed definatly adds worth over an auto, regaurdless of any differing "auto versus manual" production numbersd from each year... Honestly, I'd love to have a '71 455HO/mt Formula, but the value of these cars has gone up so much int the past ten years, that I'd probably have to win the lottery to be able to afford one now...

For 71 that Ram Air was an option only on the 455HO, not the D-port.

it's really tought to tell because often the local market will take precidence - if early 2nd gen Firebirds don't get top dollar in that region, then it might not be worth that much...

Is there that much difference between 71 and 72 other than the limted 72 production? I would think the 71 would be at least as valuable as the 72 as long as it is an HO. Any 455HO (round port) car is worth alot more than 12k imo, unless its missing half the car or is rusted so bad it makes the Titanic look pristine.
My advice would be to restore it, hang on to it. value is going up on the 70's cars. Especially since the 60's stuff with rare engines ie RAIV, LS6, HEMI, is going to the unobtainium level. And no my 72 still isnt for sale. |
