Default New Bandit Trans am for 2009

Based on the Camaro Concept wich was shown at the Detroit Auto show GM designers have released ideas about a new firebird to be built on the same platform. Top-of-the-line model will be a new "Special edition" or "Bandit" Trans am wich will include a special version of the LS2 engine with 6.6 Litre (400 cui) displacement an functional "Shaker"-scoop. The look of the car will be based on the famous 1977 S/E Trans am and will include a black/gold colourscheme complete with hoodbird and 20" replicas of the "Snowflake" wheel.

Even though it's completely fake (aka Photo Shop job), it's actually a sweet looking car. Who ever drew this car up should be working for GM. At least the person who designed this car knows what the public wants.

OK, OK, this was a joke. A guy on the german F-body-boards made this picture with Photoshop.... but i also think it would be a good idea to have a new "Bandit"....

If GM made one like in the first picture above, I would be at the dealership right now with my deposit.

A 6.0 liter engine is 366 ci.
A 6.6 " " is 402.6 ci so a 400 inch would be rounded to 6.6

Those photochopped T/A's are sick. Maybe the Flaming Chicken on the hood could be more contemporary? More anglular? My 2 cents.
You have to appreciate the spin offs that the new prototypes could inspire from the Camaro (Trans Am, Formula, Sprint, convertible) to the Challenger (Maybe a 'Cuda? sorry I had a 71 Cuda in high school).
I'm very impressed at the direction the big three are headed these days vs. the late 80's-early 90's. Although I was a little disappointed with the styling of the new GTO, performance not withstanding.

It is highly unlikely that GM will produce a new version of the Firebird & Trans Am while another LS2 sporty coupe is being produced (GTO). If the Camaro does get the nod for production, and I hope that it does, don't look for the Trans Am to follow suit. The next GTO was intended to be produced off a new domestic platform, but that platform was put on indefinite hold until the corp gets back to profitablility. The new T900 trucks (Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Escalade, etc.) will likely do very well in the market place and, if they bring back some profits, the Camaro may make it. The next GTO will probably be built off a newer Aussie platform and continue as a sporty coupe instead of the mid-size car it was in the 1960/70's. If that happens a new Trans Am is very unlikely.

i believe GTO will be put off after 06(?) until the new one comes out in 08/09. It will be based off of the same Aussie platform as the new camaro (but of course longer, etc.. the platform is much more versatile than what the old F-bodies we're used to)

That looks like a knock off of the GTO concept car they did back in the late 90's....anybody remember that one?....wish they really built it!

Saw a Trailblazer SS the other day, it's got the 6.0 LS motor also.

My 04 GTO would be gone in a heartbeat for either of those.

I have been a Pontiac guy all my life. But the 2007 Challenger is gorgeous and would be a great daily driver.

I'm with Transam525, I would put a deposit down tomorrow if they built a car that looked that good. I wrote Pontiac last month and told them the same. I don't care if it is a GTO or a TA, just build something that looks good. Pontiac emailed back and said thanks for my suggestion. They just don't get it.

Can't they make a car that looks half this good?

I showed the TA concepts y'all did to an engineer at GM. He forwarded them to the VP of styling his reply follows. Told him they would sell!

Mark,

Well - you asked for it,.....................................I sent your
suggestion the the corp VP in charge of styling. He said that it is not
a part of the plan at this time. At least he has the visual images in
his head.
