Corporate Blue was the stock color for my 77' 400. Why would 78 be any different?

Corporate Blue is as close as you can get to out of the can. My 78 was slightly more green, still got the valve covers to compare. Not as green as soem of the 73 SDs were.

I've seen corporate blue from Dupli Color in the local parts stores and Walmart.

John Witzke has previously posted this formula for the 1977-78 W72 Engine color. It isn't available anywhere off the shelf. You have to get a paint shop to mix it up and put it in a rattle can for you. I understand that this was color matched from an unexposed bit of paint off an original W72 engine.
Tinting Guide Mix size: Special (6.25 % of gallon) 8.0 oz 2K-553 Brilliant Blue 61.2 2K-010 White 179.7 2K-024 Ochre 240.2 2K-550 Violet 246.3 2K-011 Black 258.9 NON-CUM Guide 2K-553 Brilliant Blue 61.2 2K-010 White 118.5 2K-024 Ochre 60.5 2K-550 Violet 6.1 2K-011 Black 12.6

I would like to clarify, 1977-79 L78 and W72 engine appears to be the same color use by the other GM divisions. I am sure it is GM Blue originally used back then, however, I have stated in the past and stand by what I have stated, the GM blue paint found in many of the aftermarket paint companies spray cans is too blue for correct factory appearance.

Very early 1977 cars engines were the same shade of blue used during 1976 model year, then a change to the blue used for the remainder of 1977 and on.

Here is a picture of a ultra low mile 1976 455. This shade of blue was used on early 1977 engines. I am not sure of the switch over date to the shade of blue found on mine (see above) occured.

Here's an interesting chart.
http://fiedlerh.home.att.net/enginecolor.htm Unfortunately ALL of the 77-81 Corporate Blue chioces are close but no cigar! Now you can pick your favorite "incorrect" color. You'd think that one of these companys would take the time to "get it RIGHT!" |
