The cylinders have a common wall between them, there is now water between the cylinders....

Some shorts of the whys...

For the most part, Biggest Piston Possible=Biggest Intake Valve Possible=Biggest HP Possible.

Siamese walls are the only way to get the biggest piston. That's why the Butler Aluminum block isn't the first choice for every race engine(sleeves need to sit on something and end up being a deck surface for the head gasket too). The thinnest you can go with siamese cylinders is pretty much .180" and that's not much sealing surface between cylinders...but you do get a nice diameter piston and ability to play with the heads a bunch.

The other thing with large bores and the "caliper" picture, stock placement of water holes get real dam close to bores when opening up to max diameter.

Yea, some think that I'm a shill for KRE or something, but I'm not stupid Tom, that block is a coffee table if the material can't stand up to the abuse.

Dammen meant "NO" water in between cylinders

i agree rob, especially the jacket holes under the exhaust ports. juggling those 4 hole locations with relation to head and gasket deviations is tricky. the hole location isnt indicative of wall thickness at that point. the caliper reading doesnt tell me much, other than the location for the jacket hole relative the cyl.
but looking down in that hole while illuminating the cavity can give an idea of wall thick farther down.

You being a "Kauffman Man" according to some and me being a "Butler Man" according to others, we ought to just sit down together and have a beer sometime and discuss real
engineering practices and how it should be done. Agree?

Siamese walls tie the cylinders together in the middle of the block. NO water between the two cylinders. The 400 small block chevy was one of the first GM engines to do it so that they could get a 4.12 bore in the small block case length.

I think we should all sit down, have a beer, and talk about women.

Ponjohn, until you have been in combat, you really can't appreciate what a fine SH*t storm really looks like. Actually I think this is really a pretty mild deal. Kind of like a high school argument between a couple of kids, a lot of words, no real punches thrown. TALK.

That is all my comment meant.

I don't know, Tom. There was one heck of a $h!t storm back at my hotel room in Virginia after we ate dinner at the Mad Italian (LOL).
