78 T/A that, while engine is running, makes a hissing sound from under the dash when the brake pedal is applied. If the brake pedal is pushed down hard, the sound stops. Is this a problem with the brake booster? Thanks for any help!

Could be a number of things. I had the same problem with my kids 78. I heard a hissing sound under the dash, and the pedal was also spongy. In his case, he had a bad wheel cylinder.

If your 78 has ( or HAD) cruise control, check the cruise de-activator switch beside your brakelight switch at the top of the brake pedal.
Sounds like the culprit to me. Switch MAY have moved in it's bracket. Go to the vaccum source before the switch, plug it & see if your hiss goes away. |
