'69 Bonnie Safari Questions.
I just brought home a '69 Bonneville Safari. Luckily the car is very complete and in overall good condition. I've got a few questions and I'm sure I'll have more as I get into putting it back together.
Is the door weatherstripping the same as that for a 4 door? Is there a source for the weatherstripping for the tailgate? Anyone have a set of black front door panels in excellent condition?

Goatless, I'm glad you finally found 'the car.' Check with Ponchopio who posts here at PY and who also runs the full size Pontiac club website at http://www.fullsizepontiacs.com/, I believe he knows a little about big car station wagons.
I'm pretty sure the weatherstrip on the front doors is the same as on a four door, but I'm not so sure about the rear doors; I think the back edge of the window section of the rear door is shaped differently. |

Stuart, yes this one is alot more suited for it's cross-country duty than the Lemans Safari I bought last spring. I'll be in contact with Ponchopio, I think he's into the earlier Safaris though? I've been trying to find a good picture of a 4 door sedan to look at the rear doors.
John, I did a quick inventory of the trim parts in the trunk and it appears that they're all there in good shape along with a few spares.

Hey, I was just surfing around and found a page dedicated to the '69 Pontiac full size cars. It's apparently run by a Canadian guy so a lot of the info refers to Canadian cars, but there's a lot of stuff on US cars as well.

69 Safari weatherstripping...
Hey there Goatless. Nice find! Keep everybody posted on its progress.
Unfortunately, the 4 door post weatherstripping is different both front and rear and are not available from the big weatherstripping outfits HOWEVER, CPR in California DOES offer the kits for the post sedans and wagons! Their number is (909)884-6980. Good luck! John Piotrowski www.fullsizepontiacs.com |

Forgot to mention...
I do not believe the gate weatherstripping is available but it may be worth a try to see if anything is available for the full size Chevy wagons. It may not fit perfectly but could possibly be an alternative.

John, thanks for the info. I've already got CPR in my bookmarks but hadn't noticed the weatherstrip.
I'm gonna have to join the Full Size Pontiac Club now.

I got the latest Smoke Signals in the mail today, and noticed that CPR in California also sells weatherstrip for '68-'70 station wagons.
Edited to add: When I posted this yesterday I put in the wrong contact information...the place selling the weatherstrip is actually the CPR 1 Stop Shop; (909)884-6980, fax (909)884-7872. Last edited by Stuart; 10-27-2005 at 07:35 AM. |

Bringing this back to top as the Bonnie is about to go in for paint finally. I may just leave the weather stripping intact as it's not in too bad shape. If I could get the right stuff I'd definitly replace it though. I hate to have to mask it off and paint around it.
Anyone know if the carpet for a wagon is the same as a 4 door? Nobody lists carpet for wagons but it seems to me it would be the same.

I would think that most stuff from the doors forward would be catalina rather than bonneville, the bonneville wagon has the shorter catalina wheelbase
