it had a 350/2bbl pontiac in it. i thought it might be canadian. when i had the dash out CANADA was stamped in large letters on the underside. i live in central new york. the car has been here for the 18 years that i have owned it and probably longer by the street racing stories i heard when i bought it

It didn't get too far...
Well it sure didn't stray too far from where it was built. I would say that your car must have been built for export, by this I mean for sale in the USA because I cannot ever recall seeing a 350 73 -77 Canadian built and sold LeMans with a Pontiac 350. I am assuming your VIN has an M for the engine code whereas cars sold with the Chevrolet 350's in Canada would be an H or K. You will not even find those two codes on most Pontiac decoding information. In addition you can not find a 350 4bbl as an option on a US 73 LeMans yet the Corvette L-48 350 4bbl with dual exhausts was a popular option here.

On the 1970 Full sized cars...
Should have also mentioned to 1970cat, that full sized Canadian cars built at Oshawa were Strato Chief, Laurentian, Parisienne and 2+2. Your engine choices were 250 six, 350 2 & 4 bbl (Chevy), 396, 454. Cars were built on a 119" wheelbase.

The decoding is correct - no surprise there with the gurus we have available! It has the W72 engine (the T/A 6.6). If it had the Olds 403 there'd be a 'K' in place of the 'Z'. Mine's the same except for the production sequence number (mine's 383803...or the 283,802nd car out of the plant that year). My Can Am was built June 1st, yours should be substantially earlier. That info will be on your cowl tag, which is on the passenger side in the engine compartment near your windshield. I don't have a picture, but I'm sure someone here does.
