Pontiac 400 Crate Engine - Where to Buy
Where's the best place to buy these from...assuming there is a good place? I'm looking to swap the 403 out of a 78 Trans Am and before I build one up from scratch I'd figure I'd look to see what else was available. Options seem very limited for these!

Do yourself a favor and go to a wrecking yard and grab all the accessory brakcets you can find on a complete one. I don't know if any of the 403 front brackets will fit.
I think the starter is the same, and the trans, so you are in luck there. Also, you may need the engine mount brackets, but I am not sure.

I agree with SJMule's suggestion above. Great motors from a great guy.

I don't think you can go wrong with Ken, but here's another choice, just in case you want to window shop. There are others out there too!

SD Performance & The Butlers offer terrific engine combinations at fair prices and the quality is second to none. They eat and breathe PONTIAC Performance.

It turns out the poster who warned me to get the accessory brackets was correct. It's a PITA trying to hunt those things down. |

Crate Motors
Well, there seems to be quite a bit of negative experiences with one builder......Rock and Roll Engineering. I have no personal experience, but I sure ran across a lot of people steering others away from that shop.....
