when was asbestos removed from rope seals?
cause i have two sets from an old set of gaskets, dated november 1988...would those still have the oil stopping power of a risk of cancer? they have a greasy, grainy feel to them...like a rag that's been dipped in grease and valve grinding compound, expect smoother...does this sound like the good rope seals?

I wish I could remember where I saw the pictures of the surfaces of old/new rope seals. Could have been a while ago on this site- did you try a search? Or did I maybe see it on BestGasket's website?
